PLUS and Yinson GreenTech to Launch First EV Charging Hub in Seremban

PLUS Malaysia and Yinson GreenTech Malaysia, through their companies Terra PLUS and Green EV Charge (GEV), have agreed to work together on a new project. They will build and run combined retail and electric vehicle (EV) charging hubs at certain spots along the North-South Expressway (NSE).

PLUS said on Wednesday that the first hub will be built at the Seremban Rest and Service Area (Southbound). This is a crucial step in transforming the highway into a modern, EV-friendly route that meets the evolving needs of electric vehicle users.

In this joint project, PLUS will handle the planning and operation of the retail shops and food areas to provide visitors with a better overall experience. Yinson GreenTech will be responsible for setting up, operating, and managing the EV chargers.

These new hubs aim to make charging an electric vehicle more enjoyable. Unlike regular charging spots, they will offer fast DC chargers and a range of shops and food options, giving EV drivers a comfortable place to relax while their cars charge.

These hubs will help Malaysia move closer to its goal of achieving net zero emissions by 2050, as outlined in the National Energy Transition Roadmap. They will also enhance the country’s electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure, establishing a robust and reliable network along major transportation routes.

The first EV Hub will be built at the Seremban Rest and Service Area on the North-South Expressway and is expected to be ready by 2027.

So far, 112 DC fast charging points have been installed along PLUS highways, already surpassing the target set for 2025.

“This partnership is an important step in supporting Malaysia’s Low Carbon Mobility Blueprint 2030,” said Nik Airina Nik Jaffar, Managing Director of PLUS. “It also moves us closer to building a smart, eco-friendly highway that gives our customers a better travel experience.”

This will be the first hub of its kind in Malaysia and will be built on a PLUS highway.

It’s more than just a place to charge EVs—it’s a big step towards combining travel and lifestyle services in one spot. The hub aims to set a new standard for rest stops, offering a better and more complete experience for highway users.

“We are delighted to be collaborating with PLUS to realise our shared goal of making EV chargers more easily accessible,” said Lim Chern Yuan, Yinson GreenTech Chief Executive Officer.

“The hubs that we are developing aim to resolve the current challenges faced by EV drivers,

“With high speed and dependable chargers deployed at critical locations nationwide, we are helping alleviate range anxiety and remove the barrier to EV adoption. We are committed to advancing Malaysia’s green mobility ambitions,” he added.

According to the statement, these hubs will also help increase the number of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations across the country. This supports the government’s goal, led by the Ministry of Investment, Trade, and Industry, to install 10,000 electric vehicle (EV) charging points.

PLUS is the biggest highway operator in Peninsular Malaysia and one of the largest in Southeast Asia. It manages approximately 1.8 million drivers daily along 1,130 km of highways, covering 91% of the country’s interstate roads.

Yinson GreenTech is part of Yinson Holdings Berhad, a global company focused on energy and technology.
