Ryft is a new company in the data infrastructure field. It just announced it has raised $8 million in Seed funding. The company wants to help businesses control and manage their data more easily, without relying too much on big cloud providers.
The Seed funding was led by Index Ventures and included Bessemer Venture Partners. The round also got support from people who helped start Wiz, as well as leaders from companies like Zscaler, Crowdstrike, Confluent, and Cisco.
Ryft was started last year by Yossi Reitblat, Yuval Yogev, and Guy Gadon, who all worked in Israel’s intelligence community.
Ryft is building its platform using Apache Iceberg, an open-source tool for managing modern data lakes. Their goal is to offer companies an easy-to-use service that handles things like compliance, security, and optimization, without making them give full control of their data to just one company.
Many companies have moved large amounts of data to the cloud, which has opened up new possibilities. Cloud providers like Snowflake, Databricks, Microsoft, and Google make it easier to store and analyze big data.
But some customers now face problems like high costs, inflexible systems, and difficulties when they want to move their data to other places.
Ryft says its approach is better because it adds an easy-to-use layer on top of Iceberg. This helps companies keep more control over their data while Ryft takes care of the daily technical work in the background.
“Companies want to move faster and build the right foundation for AI, but they can’t afford to get bogged down in complicated infrastructure,” said Reitblat, who serves as CEO. “If they do, they risk falling behind.”
Ryft says it already works with customers in many fields like finance, online shopping, advertising technology, gaming, and cybersecurity. With the new money, the company plans to hire more engineers, build more partnerships, and increase its sales and marketing.
