Betagro Public Company (BTG), a leading food company in Thailand, has joined global partners through its venture arm, Betagro Ventures, to invest in BiomEdit, a U.S.-based animal health biotech company, as part of its $18.4 million Series B funding round.
BTG said in a statement on Monday that BiomEdit has announced the successful close of its Series B financing, led by Anterra Capital, with follow-on investment from Nutreco.
Betagro Ventures was one of the new investors in the oversubscribed $18.4 million round, along with AgriZeroNZ and Indiana’s Elevate Ventures. The funding will give BiomEdit enough capital to complete the conditional licensure process and launch its lead product, BE-101.
BE-101 is being developed to reduce deaths in broiler chickens caused by necrotic enteritis (NE) and improve poultry production in a sustainable way. Once fully licensed, it will be sold as “Optavant™” and will be the first probiotic-vectored antibody (pvAb™) product designed to neutralize Clostridium perfringens toxins—the main cause of NE.
This antibiotic-free solution offers a new approach to tackling a disease that costs the global poultry industry an estimated $6 billion each year in lost productivity, illness, and deaths. The product is now in the final stage of the USDA’s conditional licensure process and is expected to launch commercially in 2026.
“We are proud to support BiomEdit in advancing its cutting-edge biologics platform and bringing a first-of-its-kind animal health solution to market,
“This partnership underscores our commitment to innovation-driven solutions that proactively address new challenges posed by animal disease outbreaks, effectively serve market needs, thereby enhancing animal health, boosting productivity across the livestock industry, and growing the overall industry sustainably,” said Chayadhorn Taepaisitphongse, President – Animal Nutrition & New Ventures of Betagro.
“Furthermore, this collaboration will provide us with access to leading advancements in novel feed and animal health products, acting as a catalyst for co-developing innovative solutions for the future,” he added.
“This is an exciting chapter for BiomEdit. We are bringing a transformational poultry solution to U.S. broiler producers and pushing the frontiers of sustainable livestock production.
“In just three years since our founding, we are poised to deliver products to market, bolstered by new financing and investor support, including Betagro Ventures, and well-suited for the opportunities and challenges ahead,” said Aaron Schacht, Chief Executive Officer of BiomEdit.
