ZTE and Multimedia University Collaborate to Boost Malaysia’s ICT Talent in 5G, AI, and Digital Transformation

Chinese tech company ZTE Corporation announced on Thursday that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Multimedia University Malaysia (MMU). The partnership will focus on talent development in areas like 5G, artificial intelligence (AI) and digital transformation.

ZTE said in a statement that this partnership marks a significant step in bridging academia and industry, equipping students and professionals with globally recognized ICT certifications and skills to thrive in the fast-evolving digital economy.

As part of the MoU, MMU will become an authorized training and exam center for ZTE Certification. This global technical certification program covers areas like 5G, AI, wireless, core networks, and transmission.

The program has three levels: Associate (ZCIA), Professional (ZCIP), and Expert (ZCIE), allowing learners to grow from basic to expert-level skills.

So far, over 450,000 professionals worldwide have earned ZTE certifications, with many more joining each year.

Through this partnership, MMU students, teachers, and industry professionals in Malaysia will gain access to world-class training, standardized assessments, and in-demand technical skills, helping them become more employable and competitive both in Malaysia and globally.

“Our collaboration with MMU underscores ZTE’s commitment to nurturing the next generation of ICT talent,

“By combining our global expertise with MMU’s strong academic foundation, we aim to accelerate Malaysia’s digital transformation journey and create new opportunities for ICT professionals,” said Steven Ge, Managing Director of ZTE Malaysia.

Meanwhile, Prof. Dr. Ooi Chee Pun, Dean of FAIE, said partnering with ZTE aligns perfectly with MMU and FAIE’s mission to produce future-ready graduates.

“This MoU opens doors for our students and industry partners to gain certifications that are recognized and valued worldwide,” he added.

This new MoU builds on the strong partnership between ZTE and MMU over the years.

In 2023, they launched the MMU NexGen Communication Engineering Hub, which provides advanced labs, customized courses, and research opportunities in communications engineering.

In 2024, they worked together on the ZTE NextGen 5G Hackathon, where students from across Malaysia developed creative 5G solutions.

Between 2024 and 2025, they also introduced AI and cybersecurity training programs for the public sector to help boost Malaysia’s digital skills.
