Nemetschek Buys Firmus AI in Multi-Million Deal to Reduce Construction Risks

The Nemetschek Group, a German software company listed on the MDAX and TecDAX, has agreed to acquire Firmus AI. This Israeli-American startup uses artificial intelligence for preconstruction design review and financial risk analysis. The deal will be carried out through Nemetschek’s U.S. subsidiary, Bluebeam.

The companies did not share the exact financial details, but the deal is estimated to be worth several tens of millions of dollars. Firmus, which has around 35 employees in Israel and the U.S., will fully merge into Bluebeam, and its team is expected to join the acquiring company.

Firmus was founded by Shir Abecasis, a veteran of Israel’s Unit 8200 intelligence corps. So far, the company has raised $11.5 million, including an $8 million Seed round.

Its main products, AI-REVIEW and AI-MATCH, use artificial intelligence to analyze 2D PDF drawings. They identify missing details, scope gaps, and inconsistencies across different disciplines. This helps construction teams catch expensive mistakes early, work together more smoothly, and reduce financial risks.

Nemetschek reported nearly €1 billion in revenue in 2024 and sees this acquisition as a key step in speeding up its AI strategy for the global construction industry.

The plan is to integrate Firmus’ “drawing-first” AI platform into Bluebeam’s popular PDF workflows, which are already widely used in construction.

With this integration, construction teams will get tools for earlier error detection, automated markups, and easier comparisons between drawings from different project phases.

“Drawings are the universal language of construction, and that’s where risk hides,” said Abecasis. “By joining the Nemetschek Group, we’re placing Firmus’ intelligence exactly where millions of AEC professionals already work.”
