RAAAM Technologies raises $17.5 million Series A funding round led by NXP Semiconductors

RAAAM Memory Technologies, an Israeli startup that builds next-generation on-chip memory, has raised $17.5 million in a Series A funding round led by NXP Semiconductors, a major global chip company. Other investors include a multinational networking company, IAG Capital Partners, the European Innovation Council (EIC) Fund, LiFTT, Alumni Ventures, and existing backers like J-Ventures, Silicon Catalyst Ventures, and Serpentine Ventures.

With this new investment, RAAAM’s total funding now exceeds $24 million, which includes earlier investments and a grant from the EIC Accelerator program.

The new funds will help RAAAM finish testing and qualifying its patented “GCRAM” memory technology on advanced chip manufacturing processes at several top foundries. The company said it has already successfully demonstrated the technology in silicon and is now working closely with NXP to move it forward.

“Our solution promises to resolve the memory bottleneck in leading-edge AI chips through significant memory density improvement and lower power consumption compared to SRAM,” said Robert Giterman, RAAAM’s co-founder and CEO.

RAAAM’s GCRAM technology is designed to make chips up to 50% smaller and use up to 10 times less power compared to traditional SRAM, which is the main type of on-chip memory used today.

Unlike other new memory technologies that need special materials or complex manufacturing, GCRAM can be made using standard CMOS processes. This means chipmakers can add more memory to their designs without expensive changes or redesigns.

On the investor side, Victor Wang, Vice President of Front-End Innovation at NXP, said that RAAAM’s technology solves an important problem in modern chip design. He shared that NXP has worked with RAAAM for several years and has seen the strong potential of its on-chip memory, which can offer much higher density and lower power use across many different applications.

The company was founded in 2021 by Robert Giterman (CEO), Andreas Burg (Head of Technology), Adam Teman (Scientific Advisor), and Prof. Alexander Fish (Innovation Advisor). RAAAM is based in Israel and has a research and development center in Switzerland. The company currently has 22 employees.
