Alibaba Cloud has teamed up with the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) to introduce the SME Digitalization Program. This new initiative aims to help Malaysia’s small and medium businesses move faster in their digital transformation journey.
The Chinese cloud provider continues to grow strongly in Southeast Asia. It has already worked with many Malaysian organizations on digital projects and has invested heavily in AI and cloud infrastructure across Malaysia and the wider ASEAN region.
Created together with MDEC, the program will help Malaysian SMEs use the full power of AI and cloud computing—technologies that boost productivity, encourage innovation, and help businesses stay competitive globally.
Micro SMEs play a major role in Malaysia’s economic development and are essential for reaching the country’s 2030 GDP targets under the 13th Malaysia Plan. This makes the digitalization initiative an important step for the nation.
Alibaba Cloud says the program is built on four main pillars: Awareness, Upskilling, Adoption, and Innovation. Together, these elements are designed to speed up digital adoption, strengthen the SME ecosystem, and support long-term, innovation-driven growth for local businesses.
“By focusing on SMEs, this program ensures that a broad segment of Malaysia’s business ecosystem can harness the transformative potential of AI and cloud technologies. said Feifei Li, President of International Business and SVP of Alibaba Cloud Intelligence Group.
“Leveraging Alibaba Cloud’s advanced technologies in AI and cloud computing, we are excited to partner with MDEC to empower Malaysian businesses to innovate, scale, and thrive in the digital economy—driving sustainable growth and strengthening competitiveness at scale,” added Li.
“Through this strategic public-private collaboration with Alibaba Cloud, we aim to bridge the digital divide and uplift our SMEs. By equipping businesses with accessible and impactful digital solutions, we are accelerating nationwide digital adoption and establishing the foundations of a resilient innovation-led economy,” said Fadzil.
