EFB Green Energy Launches Breakthrough Solution to Turn Palm Oil Waste into Clean Energy

EFB Green Energy is setting a new benchmark for sustainable energy generation by transforming one of the palm oil industry’s most persistent waste problems into a scalable, climate-positive energy solution. Founded by two seasoned entrepreneurs, the company brings together proven expertise, advanced engineering, and a clear commitment to the circular economy.

Behind EFB Green Energy are Jeff Yang, a waste-management specialist with more than two decades of experience in Malaysia, and Erwin Rampp, a mechanical engineer and technology developer. Over many years, the two have successfully delivered projects spanning municipal recycling, plastics and e-waste processing, and landfill remediation. Their shared vision is simple and ambitious: turn environmental challenges into valuable, productive resources.

At the heart of EFB Green Energy’s innovation are Empty Fruit Bunches (EFB) — biogenic residues generated in millions of tonnes annually by palm oil production in Malaysia. Traditionally treated as a disposal problem, untreated EFB contribute significantly to methane emissions and climate change. Yet these residues also hold enormous, long-overlooked energy potential.

Past attempts to convert EFB into fuel pellets failed due to technical barriers. The high alkali content of EFB caused slagging and fouling during combustion, making industrial use uneconomical and unreliable. For years, this challenge remained unresolved.

Driven by tightening global CO reduction targets, growing incentives for₂ carbon-neutral power generation, and the expansion of emissions trading schemes, EFB Green Energy has now delivered a breakthrough. Erwin Rampp developed a proprietary technical process that, for the first time, enables the industrial-scale, economically viable conversion of EFB into high-quality energy pellets.

The result is a solution that combines environmental impact with commercial scalability. EFB Green Energy’s first production line is designed to deliver 36,000 tonnes of EFB pellets per year. In its first full year of operation, the company expects revenues of approximately USD 7 million, with strong growth potential as additional lines are deployed.

Positioned at the intersection of sustainability, technology, and capital, EFB Green Energy is redefining how biogenic waste can power the future — delivering measurable climate benefits while creating compelling economic value.
