Abu Dhabi-Based G42 and Vietnam Consortium Form $1B Data Centre Partnership

Abu Dhabi–based technology group G42 has teamed up with a consortium made up of Vietnam’s FPT Corporation and Viet Thai Group. Together, they have formed a $1 billion partnership to build AI and cloud infrastructure in Vietnam.

The goal of this initiative is to help Vietnam become an AI-native society and a leading AI hub in Southeast Asia, while also ensuring data security, national control over data, and digital resilience.

As part of the agreement, G42 and the consortium will set up large-scale cloud capacity across three data centre locations in Vietnam. These centres will provide high-performance AI and cloud services for both government and private sector use.

This project supports G42’s wider vision of building a global “Intelligence Grid” that connects AI infrastructure, cloud platforms, and governance systems, while still respecting each country’s data sovereignty.

With this new infrastructure, Vietnam will gain the technical base needed to launch national AI initiatives, digitise public services, and roll out AI-powered solutions that meet the country’s specific needs.

“This Framework Agreement represents a new model for national AI transformation—one built on sovereignty, partnership, and purpose,” said Ali Al Amine, Chief Commercial Officer of G42 International.

“Vietnam clearly understands that it cannot move forward alone. In areas such as semiconductors, AI, cloud computing, big data, and cybersecurity, we need strategic alliances with partners we can rely on and trust,” said the chairman of FPT Corporation Truong Gia Binh.

David Thai, Chairman & CEO, Viet Thai Group, said, “This initiative positions Vietnam at the forefront of AI-driven economic development in Asia, supporting economic development and the growth of the middle class in Vietnam. Our partnership with G42 and FPT creates the infrastructure foundation for long-term growth and innovation across multiple sectors.”

In addition to building infrastructure, the partnership will also focus on training people in AI. It plans to launch national AI skills and workforce development programmes to help governments, businesses, and universities adopt AI more effectively.

Last year, G42 and Microsoft announced plans to open two centres in Abu Dhabi focused on developing responsible AI.

G42 is backed by major investors, including Abu Dhabi’s sovereign wealth fund Mubadala and US private equity firm Silver Lake. The company is chaired by Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan, who is the UAE’s national security advisor and the brother of the country’s president.
