Velmenni raises $3.3 million pre-Series A round led by pi Ventures

Velmenni has raised INR 30 crore (around $3.3 million) in a pre-Series A funding round led by pi Ventures. The round also included investors like MountTech Growth Fund-Kavachh and Apekso.

The company will use the funds to speed up the launch of its Free Space Optics (FSO) and Li-Fi technologies, create customized solutions for defence and business use, and expand into global markets.

Founder and CEO Deepak Solanki said, “We aim to capture a sweet spot where fibre is too slow to deploy, radio frequency is too interference-prone to trust and licensed-band communication is too expensive,” Solanki said.

He added, “With an all-weather tested design, we offer 10Gbps+ connectivity across ranges of 1–25 km.”

Partner at pi Ventures, Shubham Sandeep, said the company has demonstrated deployments of its technology.

“They have demonstrated the ability to translate a new technology into real-world commercial deployments,” Sandeep said.

Velmenni was founded in 2014 by Deepak Solanki. The company builds wireless communication technology using light, designed for telecom, defence, and business networks.

Instead of using traditional radio signals, Velmenni uses light and lasers to send data. This makes communication more secure and allows faster data transfer.

Its technology removes the need for expensive spectrum licenses and physical cables. It also reduces interference, making communication more reliable and safe.

Earlier, Velmenni raised INR 30 crore in seed funding and also received around INR 7 crore in government support from the Department of Telecommunications through programs like the Telecom Technology Development Fund and Innovations for Defence Excellence.
