Rio Tinto has signed an agreement with AI Singapore to create and use AI solutions that can solve problems in its supply chain operations.

The two-year partnership, supported by Enterprise Singapore, will also help train AI talent in Singapore by giving learners real industry problems to work on.

AI Singapore is a national program started by the National Research Foundation to build strong AI capabilities in the country.

Since Singapore is home to Rio Tinto’s main commercial hub, this partnership will help the company use AI solutions more effectively from there.

Overall, the collaboration aims to improve productivity, support better decision-making using data, and enhance operations across Rio Tinto’s global business.

“We are pleased to collaborate with Rio Tinto, a global metals and mining company, as part of our mission to advance Singapore’s AI ecosystem,

“Providing our talent with access to complex, real world industry challenges accelerates practical learning and helps drive meaningful AI adoption in sectors such as mining, where digital transformation is emerging,” Laurence Liew, Director of AI Innovation, AI Singapore.

Meanwhile, Rio Tinto Commercial Chief Financial Officer Will Millsteed said mining is often seen as a traditional industry, but the challenges we face today require modern, AI‐enabled solutions.

The partnership will help Rio Tinto improve its technical skills, support the growth of AI talent in Singapore, and use practical AI solutions to boost productivity, improve reliability, and make better business decisions.
