Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC), a government-backed e-commerce network, has promoted Vibhor Jain as its new Managing Director and CEO starting April 7.
Jain was already working as the acting CEO after former CEO Thampy Koshy stepped down in April last year.
“Going forward, we are concentrating on what open, interoperable infrastructure can uniquely enable—things that no single platform has the incentive or the architecture to do,” Jain said.
“My priority is to deepen the value ONDC creates for the people it exists to serve: kisaans, karigars, kiranas, gig workers, first-time investors, and daily commuters across India,” he said.
Jain said that ONDC has built a strong leadership team. Rohit Lohia has joined as Chief Business Officer, and Manoj Thakur is the Chief Technology Officer.
Jain has more than 18 years of experience in business and consulting, mainly in technology and internet-based companies. At ONDC, he has played an important role in building its strategy and operations. The goal of ONDC is to move digital commerce from big platforms to an open network system.
Before joining ONDC, he worked at JUMO, where he helped start its India operations. He also led the launch of Mobike in India, handling regulatory, policy, and operations work.
Earlier, Jain co-founded Atlanta Healthcare, which focuses on air quality management. He also spent over 10 years in consulting at Andersen and EY, where he advised governments on public policy and technology projects like Aadhaar and tax systems.
