AWS Annapurna Labs Hires NeuroBlade Engineers as Startup Shuts Down

Many development employees from Israeli startup NeuroBlade will join AWS Annapurna Labs

This move likely means the end of NeuroBlade as an independent company.

In a letter to employees, Elad Sity, NeuroBlade’s CEO and co-founder, wrote: “I’m excited to share an important milestone in NeuroBlade’s journey. We have signed a definitive agreement for NeuroBlade’s core engineering team to join AWS Annapurna Labs, where we will play a leading role in innovating on next-generation products. I want to thank you all for your commitment to our mission. You’re all incredibly talented and I’m grateful for what we’ve built together. Each of you has contributed innovative solutions and cutting-edge thinking that has made NeuroBlade what it is today.”

NeuroBlade was founded in 2018 by Sity and CTO Eliad Hillel, both former members of the IDF’s elite Unit 81 and early employees at SolarEdge.

The company has raised $110 million so far. Its investors include Corner Ventures (which led the latest round), Intel Capital, Grove Ventures, StageOne Ventures, and Marius Nacht.

“This transaction marks the next chapter for NeuroBlade,” added Sity. “For me and Eliad, NeuroBlade has always been more than a company — it has been part of our lives and our family. Over the past eight years, we’ve built technologies we are deeply proud of, and a work environment and culture we always dreamed of.”

He mentioned that even before the AWS deal, NeuroBlade had completed internal team changes. “Regardless of this transaction, we finalized internal reorganizations earlier. The software and system teams joining AWS will now focus on the next big chapter, where the impact of our work will grow significantly.”

“We are deeply proud of what we’ve built together and grateful for your commitment, creativity, and resilience along the way. We’re equally excited for what comes next, and we’re confident this new chapter will unlock even greater opportunities for Neurobladers and our technology.”

NeuroBlade created a new data analytics system that removes bottlenecks in data processing by bringing computation directly into memory. Its memory accelerator technology combines custom hardware, software, and algorithms into a single system, which is installed in server farms to speed up large-scale calculations.

Annapurna Labs, which has hundreds of employees in Israel, creates advanced chip technologies, especially for artificial intelligence. The company was bought by Amazon in 2015 for around $370 million.

Annapurna Labs develops network training processors called Trainium for AWS. These processors are used to train large AI systems and allow AWS to provide AI cloud services.
