Beewise, a climate-tech startup from Israel, has raised $50 million in Series D funding to grow its smart, self-operating beehive technology.
This funding round included support from investors like Fortissimo Capital, Insight Partners, and others.
With this new investment, Beewise has now raised nearly $170 million in total. The company is focusing on using advanced technology to help solve the important but often overlooked problem of the decline of bees and other pollinators worldwide.
The company says that over 62% of bee colonies in the U.S. died just last year. This is a huge loss that threatens not only nature’s variety but also the food we grow.
Bees help pollinate more than a third of the crops worldwide and 75% of flowering plants. Their decline is caused by extreme weather, pesticides, diseases, and farming that grows only one type of crop. This problem is a serious but often ignored threat to the world’s food supply.
Beewise’s solution is a mix of biology, robotics, and AI software. Their main product, the BeeHome, is a solar-powered robotic hive that takes care of bee colonies by watching over them all the time.
Unlike regular hives, which beekeepers check only every few weeks—sometimes too late to save the bees—BeeHome gives constant updates and can treat problems like pests remotely. It also controls the hive’s climate and adjusts healthcare automatically.
The company says it currently has more than 1,240 active BeeHomes working at farms around the world.
help pollinate over 300,000 acres each year for big food companies like Agriland, Olam Food Ingredients, and Nuveen Natural Capital.
