BlackBerry Limited has reached a major milestone in Asia Pacific by expanding its regional headquarters in Malaysia, showing its commitment to stronger collaboration in cybersecurity and secure communications across the region.
The announcement came during a visit by Canada’s Parliamentary Secretary of Trade, Yasir Naqvi, and Canada’s High Commissioner to Malaysia, Jodi Robinson.
Their visit, following last week’s ASEAN Summit Economic Ministers’ meetings, included stops at the MCMC and BlackBerry Cybersecurity Center of Excellence (CCoE) in Cyberjaya.
On 26 September, BlackBerry celebrated the opening of its new sales and marketing headquarters at Q Sentral, Kuala Lumpur.
The company also marked its fully operational 24/7 Support Centre in Mont Kiara, both serving governments, businesses, and industries across the APAC region.
Visitors also saw the expanding CCoE training centre in Cyberjaya, which is getting a major upgrade.
The improvements will include new high-performance labs, interactive kiosks, a cyber war room, and a SOC simulator. These updates will help cyber-defenders get better hands-on training, adding to the centre’s 55+ existing courses.
Yasir Naqvi, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of International Trade and to the Secretary of State (International Development), said, “As Malaysia continues to grow as a trusted hub for cybersecurity and secure communications, we are pleased to see Canadian companies like BlackBerry invest, grow, and thrive here and deepen Canada’s support for the Government of Malaysia. More than ever, public-private sector partnerships like these, which bring advanced capabilities to the region, demonstrate a shared commitment to our strengthening partnership, enhancing cyber resilience, capacity-building and innovation in Malaysia and ASEAN under Canada’s Indo-Pacific Strategy.”
The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) welcomed BlackBerry’s expansion, calling it an important step for stronger public–private partnerships.
Regulators said the move helps Malaysia become a regional hub for secure communications and improves the country’s ability to protect critical infrastructure from new threats.
Tash Stamatelos, Senior Vice President for BlackBerry in APAC, added, “BlackBerry is a proud Canadian company, and we are excited to celebrate our continued expansion and growth in Malaysia. We are grateful to the Government of Malaysia for their trust in our partnership, our solutions, and our commitment to supporting the nation address complex risks, from espionage and cyber-attacks to disaster response, while working with MCMC and our government partners to help upskill the national cyber-workforce.”
