BlackBerry Expands Malaysia Hub to Boost Asia-Pacific Cybersecurity

Canadian software company BlackBerry Limited has announced that it is expanding the Asia Pacific (APAC) headquarters of its Secure Communications division in Malaysia, showing its long-term commitment to the country and the wider ASEAN region.

Following the successful launch of the MCMC and BlackBerry Cybersecurity Center of Excellence (CCoE) in Cyberjaya in March 2024, BlackBerry is now scaling its presence across three strategic locations: Cyberjaya, central Kuala Lumpur, and Mont Kiara, the firm said in a statement on Wednesday.

The expansion will include a new sales and marketing office, along with a Regional Support Centre with more than 50 technical experts. This centre will provide round-the-clock support and professional services for customers across the Asia-Pacific region.

“As Malaysia strengthens its position as a regional hub for digital resilience and innovation, we are proud to expand our APAC Secure Communications headquarters here – now with enhanced 24/7 support for a region tackling complex risks,” said Tash Stamatelos, Senior Vice President for BlackBerry in APAC.

“This expansion supports both BlackBerry’s regional growth strategy and Malaysia’s national priorities, including capacity building, enhanced disaster response, and the implementation of sovereign, military-grade communications to combat rising espionage,” he added.

According to the statement, this shared vision for bolstering digital resilience is echoed by Malaysia’s regulators with MCMC welcoming BlackBerry’s expanded footprint as a catalyst for deeper public–private collaboration.

Building on the work of the MCMC and BlackBerry Cybersecurity Center of Excellence in Cyberjaya, this expansion will make Malaysia an even stronger hub for secure communications. It will also help the country protect its government, critical infrastructure, and industries from growing cyber threats.

This move follows the Canadian government’s commitment of CAD 3.9 million ($2.83 million) for multi-year cybersecurity training at the Cybersecurity Centre of Excellence, announced in November 2024. The first phase will start in November 2025 with the globally recognized “Certifications for Leadership in Cybersecurity” (CLIC) course.

In addition, a new partnership with EC-Council will provide self-paced learning courses for Malaysian civil servants, further boosting the country’s cybersecurity skills.
