ByteAsk Raises $1 Mn to Develop AI Coding Tools

AI coding startup ByteAsk has raised $1 million in a pre-seed funding round led by Y Combinator. Entrepreneur First and angel investors from global quantitative trading firms also participated in the round.

SUMMARY

  • ByteAsk raised $1 million in a pre-seed round led by Y Combinator.
  • Entrepreneur First and angel investors from global quantitative trading firms also participated.
  • The startup is building AI coding agents for C and C++ codebases.
  • The funding will support product development, hiring, GPU compute and enterprise infrastructure.

The company will use the funding to develop its AI coding tools, expand infrastructure, hire engineers and invest in GPU compute, training data, security and privacy.

What is ByteAsk?

ByteAsk is building AI coding agents for C and C++ codebases. Its platform is designed for engineers working on applications where reliability, performance and correctness are critical.

The company is targeting industries such as high-frequency trading, automotive, defence, aerospace, robotics, embedded systems and semiconductors.

Funding Details

ByteAsk raised $1 million in its pre-seed funding round, led by Y Combinator. Entrepreneur First and angel investors from global quantitative trading firms also participated.

The startup has also been selected for Y Combinator's Fall 2026 batch.

How Will ByteAsk Use the Funding?

ByteAsk will use the fresh capital for product and infrastructure development. The company plans to hire engineers in San Francisco and India.

The funding will also support GPU compute, training data and the development of enterprise-grade security, privacy and on-premises infrastructure for customers in sensitive industries.

Who Founded ByteAsk

Founded in June 2026 by IIT Delhi alumni Anirudha Kulkarni and Pratyush Saini, ByteAsk is headquartered in San Francisco. The company focuses on AI-assisted development for C and C++ codebases.

Its platform focuses on debugging, performance, memory optimisation, grounding and verification rather than only generating code.

Before founding ByteAsk, Anirudha Kulkarni worked on low-latency C++ systems at Optiver and markets engineering at Quantbox Research. Pratyush Saini previously worked on AI infrastructure at ThirdAI and AI security agents at SimbianAI.Market and Business Growth

ByteAsk plans to initially target large enterprises in high-frequency trading, automotive and embedded systems. It plans to expand into adjacent markets over time.

The company said its internal benchmark, based on real firmware engineering tickets, showed its grounding environment resolving 89% of tickets, compared with 61% for the best frontier model tested without the environment.

What Happens Next?

ByteAsk is developing a specialised post-training approach for C++. The company plans to release a language model specifically post-trained for C++ within the next six to eight months.

Leadership Statement

Saini said the team identified a gap between the performance of AI coding tools on modern programming languages and their performance on C++. “We surveyed all the benchmarks out there...and it was shocking to us that in Python they are at like 90-95 per cent numbers, but in C++ they are less than 10 per cent on all the hard C++ tasks,” he said.

“C and C++ power a huge amount of the world's critical infrastructure, but the gains we've seen from AI coding tools have not translated equally well to these environments,” Saini said. “We wanted to work on a problem where reliability, verification and context matter as much as generation.”

The founders are also drawing on lessons from LawSutra. Saini said building the legal AI startup taught them that “models alone are not sufficient” and that understanding customers and their workflows is critical. “Context matters to AI agents more than anything else,” he said.
