Cashfree Payments, a company that provides AI-based payment solutions, has appointed Sameer Gandhi as its new Chief Financial Officer (CFO).
Sameer has more than 20 years of experience in finance and has worked with global financial institutions. In his new role, he will help manage the company’s financial strategy, improve financial processes, and support revenue planning as Cashfree focuses on growing faster and becoming more profitable.
Before joining Cashfree, he was Head of Finance at Visa India, where he managed financial operations and planning. He has also worked at Vodafone in financial planning roles, and earlier at ING Australia as a senior M&A analyst. He started his career at Crisil and Citigroup.
Akash Sinha, CEO & Co-founder, Cashfree Payments, said, “For over a decade, we have been simplifying payments to help businesses launch, grow, and succeed in the digital economy while ensuring that every single transaction is safe, secure, and compliant. The combination of receiving RBI licenses early, strong revenue growth, and early leadership in AI-native payments, has helped us create a strong foundation for our business. As we accelerate into our next stage of growth, Sameer’s proven track record in working for large institutions makes him a powerful addition to the leadership team. His expertise will be instrumental as we double down on sustainable growth and strive towards our goal of becoming profitable.”
On his appointment, Sameer Gandhi, Chief Financial Officer, Cashfree Payments said, “I am excited to join Cashfree Payments at a pivotal phase where ambition meets discipline and the path to profitability begins to take clear shape. India presents a huge long-term opportunity in the digital payments sector, with an established fintech ecosystem. Being the first payments platform in India to hold all three RBI payments licenses gives a significant edge to Cashfree Payments over other players. I look forward to working as a strategic business partner – balancing cost discipline with funding innovation, and contributing to shared vision and goals by ensuring robust financial foundation and governance across all functions.”
Cashfree Payments handles more than $80 billion in transactions every year and serves over 1 million businesses, including startups and large companies.
The company recently raised $53 million (about ₹450 crore) in a funding round led by KRAFTON, along with existing investor Apis Partners.
Cashfree is now focusing more on AI-powered payments. It has introduced tools that allow AI systems to manage invoices and make payments automatically. It also launched a product called “Cashfree Here,” which helps businesses add payment options directly into AI chatbots.
