UBTech Launches Thinker-Sim Platform

China-based robotics company UBTech has launched Thinker-Sim, an embodied AI simulation platform designed to make robot training faster and less expensive. The platform aims to reduce real-world data collection costs, simplify virtual environment creation and shorten the time needed to test robotics algorithms.

Thinker-Sim Uses Real2Sim2Real Technology

Thinker-Sim follows a Real2Sim2Real approach that connects physical environments with virtual simulations. It allows developers to recreate real-world scenes digitally, generate synthetic training data and test robot performance before using machines in actual environments.

The platform combines scene digitisation, large-scale synthetic data generation and robot capability evaluation. Developers can use virtual environments to test different situations, identify problems and improve robot performance without repeatedly conducting physical experiments.

UBTech Aims to Make Robot Training More Efficient

Collecting real-world data is one of the major challenges in robotics development. Robots need large amounts of information to recognise objects, avoid obstacles and perform tasks in different environments. Gathering this data using physical machines can require significant time, equipment and investment.

Thinker-Sim aims to address these challenges by bringing several stages of robot development together on one platform. It could help developers reduce testing costs and improve the speed of algorithm validation.

UBTech Expands Its Robotics and AI Business

The launch adds software capabilities to UBTech's existing robotics portfolio. The Shenzhen-based company develops humanoid robots, industrial robotics technologies and AI education robots.

UBTech's move comes as competition in robotics simulation and embodied AI increases. Nvidia's Isaac Sim already provides simulation and synthetic data tools for robotics developers. China has also opened more than 70 robot training centres as part of its efforts to advance embodied AI.
