Singapore-Based Cisco to Acquire with Robust Intelligence

Cisco plans to Acquire Robust Intelligence, established by Israeli mathematician Professor Yaron Singer. The buying price was unknown.

Tom Gillis, Senior Vice President of Cisco and General Manager of the Security Business Group, made the announcement of the acquisition in a blog post. The technology from Robust Intelligence provides protection for AI models from research to production.

Robust Intelligence assists enterprises in safely deploying AI applications while abiding by industry and regulatory standards with sophisticated automation and risk reduction. The company had planned to dramatically expand its activities prior to the takeover, and it currently employs a limited number of people in Israel.

Cisco declared in June of this year that it will use a special fund it formed to invest $1 billion in AI startups. The fund’s operations led to this acquisition.

In the year 2021, Kojin Oshiba and Yaron Singer founded Robust Intelligence. At the age of forty, Singer, one of the youngest math professors at Harvard University, was given tenure.

The startup has raised $44 million so far, and among its investors is Cisco. During its most recent round of funding, the company was valued at more than $200 million.

“Security leaders need purpose-built solutions they can trust to keep up with the new paradigm of AI risk,” said Singer. “Our team is excited about the integral role our platform will play in shaping the future of the Cisco Security Cloud, providing end-to-end AI security and leading the AI revolution with Cisco.”

Robust’s solution was a little ahead of its time, as not everyone realized the devastating effects that such errors could have, particularly when it came to business applications for industries like finance, until the introduction of ChatGPT and Google’s Bard, which occasionally made embarrassing mistakes.

Over the past 24 months, Robust’s systems have seen a sharp increase in demand, and Singer has found it much easier to explain to prospective clients the ramifications of artificial intelligence engines’ hallucinations, no matter how complex and sophisticated they may be.

“We see Robust Intelligence as a natural fit for Cisco that reinforces our dedication to responsible AI and providing better outcomes through security for AI and AI for security,” wrote Gillis. “Robust Intelligence’s focus and deep expertise in AI model security and governance perfectly complements our existing capabilities, accelerating our roadmap for the Cisco Security Cloud. The combination of Cisco and Robust Intelligence means that we can deliver advanced AI security processing seamlessly into the existing data flows, by inserting it into Cisco security and networking products.”
