CMC Invests Over $250 Million to Build Advanced Data Center in Vietnam

The management board of Saigon Hi-Tech Park (SHTP) has officially approved CMC Corporation’s plan to build a large data center called the CMC Hyperscale Data Center. The project will cost more than $250 million.

CMC said in a statement on Monday that more than just a digital infrastructure project at the eastern gateway of Ho Chi Minh City, this milestone marks a significant leap forward in CMC’s journey to build a hyperscale digital infrastructure, advancing the national artificial intelligence (AI) Transformation – Go Global strategy and elevating Vietnam on the global technology map.

The CMC Hyperscale Data Center at Saigon Hi-Tech Park is not like a regular data center. It’s built to be a powerful “digital heart” that stores, processes, and analyzes data. It will offer services like AI tools, cloud systems, big data solutions, and cybersecurity for millions of users.

The center uses advanced technologies such as XGS-PON, SD-WAN, SASE, and 800G DWDM. These help provide super-fast, stable, and secure connections from the core systems to the edge devices.

One of the standout features is a Digital Twin system. This allows the center to monitor and improve its operations in real time.

CMC is also focusing on using renewable energy to make the center eco-friendly and up to global standards.

When it opens, the center will start with a power capacity of 30 megawatts, and it can grow to 120 megawatts to support the huge computing needs of AI and the digital economy.

According to the statement, the project’s true value lies not just in its size, but in its long-term vision.

From the beginning, CMC has been building an open technology system that includes CMC Cloud, AI, big data, and cybersecurity. They have developed strong capabilities, like a GPU farm with over 1,000 powerful NVIDIA GH200 units and several top-level data centers that meet Uptime Tier III standards, making them leaders in Vietnam.

The new CMC Hyperscale Data Center at Saigon Hi-Tech Park is a major upgrade. It puts Vietnam on the map as a key player in Southeast Asia’s digital infrastructure and opens the door for big global tech and AI companies to invest here.

It also powers two key pillars of the national digital transformation: CMC Cloud (a 100 percent Vietnamese-developed cloud computing platform); C.OpenAI (an open AI ecosystem with 25 proprietary core technologies including computer vision, large language models [LLM], Voice Processing, and Datalakehouse).

It is noted that numerous AI products have already been successfully commercialized and ranked highly on the global stage, such as C. Face, C.OCR (SmartDocs), CLS legal assistant, AI Camera, and AI Box.

Besides its tech achievements, the CMC Hyperscale Data Center is also seen as an important national project.

CMC is working with Ho Chi Minh City and the Vietnam Center for the Fourth Industrial Revolution (C4IR), which is part of the World Economic Forum, to help create Vietnam’s first “AI City” model.

This project supports Resolution 57, which focuses on major progress in science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation in Vietnam. It also supports Resolution 68, which encourages the private sector to play a bigger role in growing the economy.

Thanks to this advanced infrastructure, Ho Chi Minh City will have a big advantage in attracting AI research centers, tech startups, investment funds, and technology universities. This will help the city move closer to its goal of becoming a leading digital hub in the region.

“We do not consider the CMC Hyperscale Data Center at SHTP to be just another data center,

“This is a strategic digital infrastructure that supports Ho Chi Minh City’s development into a Digital Hub of the region,” said Nguyen Trung Chinh, Chairman of the Board and Executive Chairman of CMC Corporation.

“It is the core infrastructure for national digital and AI transformation, empowering Vietnamese enterprises with world-class computing resources, eliminating the need to outsource data processing abroad,

“This is our concrete commitment to the implementation of Resolution 57 and Resolution 68, and our contribution to national development through core technology,” he added.

As part of its Go Global strategy, CMC sees AI as the key to helping Vietnam compete on a global level.

The new Hyperscale Data Center in Ho Chi Minh City will offer services like AI-as-a-service, big data, and cybersecurity, not just in Vietnam, but also to international markets.

For CMC, this project is more than just building technology. It’s a strong statement that Vietnam can develop advanced technologies and become a trusted partner in global AI and digital transformation.
