Commercial Bank Teams Up with NPCI to Bring UPI Payments in Qatar

Commercial Bank (CB) has partnered with NPCI International Payments Limited (NIPL), the global branch of India’s National Payments Corporation (NPCI), to allow merchants in Qatar to accept payments via UPI QR codes.

This move extends UPI’s reach internationally and reinforces its role as a reliable solution for smooth cross-border digital payments.

UPI is a popular digital payment system in India, handling over 20 billion transactions every month as of August 2025. With this agreement, Commercial Bank will allow its merchants to accept UPI payments giving customers a fast, reliable, and easy way to pay.

The partnership aims to provide more payment options for Indian travellers, improving their experience in retail stores, hotels, and restaurants in Qatar.

Commercial Bank EGM and Head of Retail Banking Shahnawaz Rashid said, “This collaboration with NPCI International reflects Commercial Bank’s commitment to innovation and responsiveness to market needs. UPI is a proven success in India, and we are proud to support its expansion in Qatar, enhancing convenience and customer experience across our network.”

NPCI International MD&CEO Ritesh Shukla said, “We are happy to partner with Commercial Bank to expand UPI acceptance in Qatar. This collaboration will soon enable Indian travellers to experience the same convenience, simplicity, and trust they experience when using UPI in India.”

This agreement highlights Commercial Bank’s role as a leader in digital transformation, offering customers secure and convenient payment solutions.

It also supports NIPL’s goal to grow UPI globally, making cross-border payments safe and easy.

Together, the partnership contributes to the development of cashless transactions in Qatar and beyond.
