DayOne Signs Deal with TNB to Get 500MW of Green Energy

DayOne Data Centers, a company from Singapore that provides digital infrastructure, has made a deal with Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), a Malaysian power company.

This deal lets DayOne buy up to 500 megawatts of renewable energy for 21 years to power its data centers in Malaysia.

DayOne is the first company in Malaysia to sign this kind of contract under the new Corporate Renewable Energy Supply Scheme (CRESS), setting an example for other businesses to use green energy.

The renewable energy will come from new solar power plants built and managed by TNB Renewables, a part of TNB.

DayOne currently operates two large data center campuses in Malaysia, located at Nusajaya Tech Park (NTP) and Kempas Tech Park (KTP).

“This partnership with TNB marks a bold step forward in our decarbonization journey,

“It reflects the ambitious collaboration needed to power the AI-driven digital economy sustainably—and to do so at scale,” said Jamie Khoo, Chief Executive Officer of DayOne.

“We are proud to lead by example in Malaysia through the country’s first CRESS agreement. Sustainability is core to how we build, operate, and grow,

“At DayOne, we are not only transitioning our campuses to renewable energy—we are working to embed environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles into every part of our value chain,” he added.

DayOne said it is strongly dedicated to being sustainable and growing responsibly.

The company is working to use only renewable energy for all its operations and is taking real actions to cut down its direct and indirect carbon emissions. It also helps its customers reduce the environmental impact of their digital systems.

This important agreement supports DayOne’s plan for environmental and social responsibility and shows how using green energy and new technology together can create strong and future-ready infrastructure for Malaysia.

“The formalization of the partnership between DayOne and Tenaga Nasional Berhad demonstrates the private sector’s confidence in Malaysia’s reindustrialization and clean energy visions,

“Such policy clarity, as laid out in the New Industrial Master Plan 2030 and the National Energy Transition Roadmap, has also sent a strong signal to the world: Malaysia is open for business, with focused execution on the investor’s journey to lead the next wave of sustainable digital growth, high-quality jobs, and a future-ready development that will benefit our people and our economic expansion.,” said Tengku Zafrul Aziz, Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry.

TNB’s President and CEO, Megat Jalaluddin Megat Hassan, said that this agreement is more than just a deal for power—it shows a shared goal of creating a smarter, cleaner, and more sustainable future.

He added that since this is the first CRESS agreement to supply up to 500 megawatts of green energy, it sends a strong message about how working together can provide reliable and large-scale clean energy for Malaysia’s growing digital needs, especially for big data centers.

“TNB is proud to lead in this transition—not only by supplying renewable energy, but by building the grid resilience, energy infrastructure, and digital backbone that enable artificial intelligence (AI), cloud, and high-performance workloads,

“Through initiatives like the TNB Green Lane Pathway and One-Stop Center (OSC) for data centers, we are supporting Malaysia’s 70 percent renewable energy target and net-zero ambition, while driving inclusive growth and job creation,” he added.

Malaysia’s Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA) introduced the Corporate Renewable Energy Supply Scheme (CRESS). This program lets medium and high-voltage businesses buy renewable energy directly through TNB’s power grid. It’s part of the country’s efforts to move toward cleaner and more sustainable energy.

In October 2024, DayOne and TNB further strengthened their partnership by signing their fourth Electricity Supply Agreement (ESA) and a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This was done under the Green Lane Pathway Initiative and the One-Stop Center (OSC) to support the growth of data centers in Malaysia.
