Deeptech startup Comminent has raised $2 million from Transition VC, a fund focused on energy transition.
The company said it will use the money to grow its smart metering product range and explore other smart city solutions, such as smart lighting, water metering, and intelligent infrastructure management.
Co-founded in 2018 by Amarjeet Kumar and Vikas Kashyap, Bengaluru-based Comminent builds standards-based, device-agnostic RF mesh communication networks.
Its technology is used for critical infrastructure, including smart metering and smart city solutions.
Its interoperable, high-speed, secure, and self-healing network system solves the reliability, scalability, and delay problems found in older communication technologies.
The company aims to offer utilities and OEMs a strong, cost-effective solution that works smoothly across different regions, including rural and non-urban areas.
It plans to install 250 million smart meters in the next 4–5 years and expects to earn INR 300 crore in revenue by FY28.
Comminent says it has already secured contracts for over 1 million endpoints and is in talks for more smart metering projects.
It is also working on smart street lighting and water metering projects. It plans to expand globally through strategic partnerships, with early interest from markets such as the US and Japan.
