Dubai-Based ICBA Collaborate with Green University

Uzbekistan’s Tashkent By signing a memorandum of understanding, the International Center for Biosaline Agriculture (ICBA) and the Central Asian University of Environmental and Climate Change Studies, popularly known as Green University, have formally joined forces.

At a ceremony in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, Dr. Jasur Salikhov, Acting Rector of Green University, and Dr. Tarifa Alzaabi, Director General of ICBA, signed the agreement. H.E. Mohammad AlDaheri, Head of the Economic, Political, and Media Affairs Section of the UAE Embassy in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, was present at the signing event.

It opens the door to deeper collaboration in Uzbekistan’s advancement of agricultural research and development. The partnership will include things like cooperative initiatives and programs meant to advance agricultural innovation and science as well as capacity building. Specifically, it will give Green University students opportunities for internships and fellowships to obtain practical experience.

The agreement also specifies how workshops, conferences, webinars, and other events will be arranged to advance agricultural science and knowledge sharing.

Through the development of their research and leadership abilities, women in agriculture will receive particular attention as part of this cooperation.

In order to assist their collaboration efforts, both universities will actively share scientific materials, publications, and other pertinent information. They will also look for funding for joint initiatives.

Dr. Tarifa Alzaabi, Director General of ICBA, said: “Our collaboration with Green University will make it possible to combine our resources and efforts to achieve common goals in sustainable development in Uzbekistan in particular and Central Asia as a whole. By leveraging our capacity and expertise, we will work to address critical challenges in agriculture and contribute to food security, livelihoods and sustainability at the national and regional levels. We look forward to putting our plans into action and developing innovative solutions for sustainable agrifood systems, especially in saline and arid environments.”

The collaboration between ICBA and Green University expands on the organization’s current portfolio of projects and alliances aimed at promoting sustainable agricultural development in Uzbekistan and the surrounding area.

Dr. Charbel Tarraf, Chief Operations and Development at ICBA, said: “As we give youth engagement a priority in our capacity development programs, we work closely with academic institutions in different countries. We believe it is important to provide young people with resources and opportunities to engage in scientific research and innovation. Therefore, we offer a wide range of tailor-made programs to students, including internships and fellowships. And this partnership will allow students from Green University to benefit ICBA’s capacity development offerings.”

To consider extending cooperation in a number of areas, the management of ICBA met with top Uzbek officials as well as other partners early in 2024. These initiatives are a component of ICBA’s larger objective to create strategic partnerships and alliances globally to support sustainable livelihood, food security, and agriculture.
