GCash Partners with Alipay+ and Mastercard to Expand Global Payments

Philippine fintech company GCash has launched a new contactless payment solution that is fast, secure, and works worldwide. This innovation is made possible through its partnership with Alipay+ and Mastercard.

GCash said in a statement on Thursday that GCash Tap to Pay can now be used by its users to pay at more than 150 million Mastercard acceptance locations across the world, powered by Near Field Communications (NFC) technology.

This new solution lets e-wallets like GCash make NFC payments through a partnership between Alipay+ and Mastercard.

Alipay+, part of Ant International, is a global wallet gateway that already supports cross-border QR payments and now adds NFC payments.

GCash is one of the first partners to use this feature, allowing users to pay with NFC directly from their existing account — without needing a credit or debit card.

“At GCash, our goal has always been to drive financial innovation and create an inclusive, cashless ecosystem,

“With Tap to Pay, we’re not just modernizing payments; we’re empowering Filipinos with a seamless and globally competitive solution that is locally relevant and universally accessible,” said Ren-Ren Reyes, President and Chief Executive Officer of GCash mobile wallet operator G-Xchange, Inc.

With Tap to Pay, users can make payments by simply tapping their NFC-enabled Android phone on any Mastercard-accepting POS terminal.

This adds to the existing QR code payment option available in over 50 countries, giving GCash users wider global acceptance — from small local shops to large department stores.

It also reduces the need to carry cash, making everyday transactions abroad easier and more convenient.

“GCash is a pioneer in driving digital payments, and now one of our first partners to enable Alipay+ NFC global payment capability,

“Alipay+’s collaboration with Mastercard is redefining a new future of global payments, enabling Alipay+ partner wallets to be accepted at Mastercard NFC merchants around the world,” said Douglas Feagin, President of Ant International.

“We believe that greater interoperability between e-wallet and card systems is a trend of the future,” he added.

According to the statement, robust security is at the core of this innovation with authentication protocols and data encryption ensuring every payment is protected from tampering and fraud.

The result is a smooth and secure way to pay, whether it’s for a quick coffee or a full grocery run.

With GCash Tap to Pay, Filipinos can now enjoy easier and more convenient transactions both in the Philippines and abroad, thanks to its partnership with Alipay+ and Mastercard.

It also makes cross-border shopping simpler by removing the need to carry foreign cash or multiple bank cards.
