Momenta, a China-based autonomous driving technology company, has entered into a strategic partnership with Grab, Southeast Asia’s leading superapp. The collaboration includes a strategic investment by Grab and a joint effort to introduce advanced autonomous driving technologies across the region’s complex urban mobility landscape.
Grab stated that Momenta follows a unique dual-track strategy to scale autonomous driving in real-world conditions. One track focuses on partnerships with global automakers such as Mercedes-Benz and BMW, equipping their vehicles with advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) powered by Momenta’s Flywheel Big Model.
Alongside this, Momenta is rapidly advancing its Robotaxi technology and is moving closer to the commercial launch of its autonomous taxi fleet. Building on this foundation, Grab and Momenta will explore bringing this combined approach to Southeast Asia, with safety positioned as a core priority of the partnership.
The collaboration aims to overcome long-standing challenges in autonomous driving deployment, particularly the high cost of vehicle modifications and hardware integration. By integrating L4-level autonomous capabilities directly into mass-produced vehicles, Momenta enables factory-installed solutions. Together, Grab and Momenta plan to deploy autonomous services using Momenta-powered vehicles integrated into Grab’s platform, paving the way for scalable autonomous mobility in Southeast Asia.
“We are excited to shape the future of mobility in Southeast Asia and Momenta’s impressive technological capabilities expands the ways we will explore that. Their simultaneous focus on mass-market ADAS and cutting-edge Robotaxis creates a powerful feedback loop,
“This partnership will be essential for us to rigorously test different autonomous use cases, understand the commercial path to autonomous operations, and ultimately define the best way to safely weave this next-generation technology into the daily journeys of our users,” said Dominic Ong, General Manager of Autonomous at Grab.
Momenta Chief Executive Officer Xudong Cao, said Grab is the most influential mobility platform in the Southeast Asian market, and we are delighted to join hands with Grab to bring Momenta’s technology and experience to this vibrant region.
“Our goal is to make safe and comfortable autonomous driving experiences a part of everyday life for users around the world—just like mobile networks are today,” he added.
The partnership with Grab marks another important step in bringing Momenta’s autonomous driving technology into real-world use.
Going forward, Momenta will keep working with global partners to improve future mobility and move closer to a world where autonomous driving is safe, practical, and accessible to everyone.
