GrabMaps, Southeast Asia’s hyperlocal mapping service is partnering with Tino, Mongolia’s superapp to create an advanced digital map of Mongolia. This is GrabMaps first mapping partnership outside Southeast Asia, marking a major milestone for the company. For Tino, which was launched by TESO Investment, this collaboration will help improve ride-hailing, delivery, tourism, and e-commerce services in Mongolia.
GrabMaps provides precise, up-to-date maps and location data solutions using advanced technology. Its system was originally built to support Grab, Southeast Asia’s leading superapp, and is designed to meet the needs of fast-growing regions. For Tino, GrabMaps will provide affordable mapping hardware and software that can keep up with the rapid infrastructure changes in Mongolia.
The first phase of the project will focus on mapping Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia’s capital, before expanding to other cities. Vehicles branded with both Tino and GrabMaps logos, equipped with GrabMaps’ mapping devices KartaCam 2 and KartaDashCam, will collect street-level data. This includes road networks, street names, points of interest (POIs), traffic lights, stop signs, speed limits, and more. The collected data will then be processed to create detailed, frequently updated maps of Mongolia.
GrabMaps will also provide Tino with its mapping software and APIs, including geocoding and routing tools. These will improve geolocation accuracy, help capture addresses in areas that are poorly mapped, and enhance navigation. This technology will support Tino’s taxi and delivery services when they launch later this year.
GrabMaps technology is already used across eight Southeast Asian countries to power Grab’s ride-hailing and delivery services. Its proprietary mapping system helps drivers and users find the fastest routes, see real-time traffic conditions, and get accurate ETAs. Now, GrabMaps is extending its services to third-party companies like Amazon Web Services, Microsoft’s Bing Maps, Huawei’s Petal Maps and Singapore’s PUB, showing its capability to support large-scale mapping projects worldwide.
“Through our experience operating across eight countries in Southeast Asia, we know that advanced, precise, and frequently refreshed maps are crucial for superapps offering on-demand services,
“GrabMaps technology has been instrumental for Grab’s own ability to adjust its marketplace to fast-changing conditions, as well as users’ and partners’ experience of our app,” said Sriram Iyer, Head of Product, Geo and Fulfilment at Grab.
“We are excited to partner with Tino to support its success and growth as Mongolia’s first superapp, as the country’s digital economy continues to expand,” he added.
Erdenebayar Sainjargal, Teso Investment Chief Executive Officer, said tey are delighted to partner with GrabMaps as we expand our suite of services across Mongolia and continue to grow as a business.
“GrabMaps’ technology and APIs will enhance the accuracy and currency of the maps that power Tino Super App, so our users can experience more reliable mobility, delivery, tourism and ecommerce services,
“Grab’s own success in Southeast Asia is a testament to the impact that advanced maps have on a superapp’s growth and scale,” he added.
