HDFC Bank, one of India’s biggest private banks, has invested in CoRover, a conversational AI startup. CoRover has created BharatGPT, which is India’s first homegrown large language model designed for businesses.
CoRover already has a huge user base of nearly 1 billion people and works with more than 25,000 enterprises and developers. The company creates smart conversational AI tools like chatbots, voicebots, videobots, and telephony AI solutions.
All of these are powered by BharatGPT, a large language model that is multilingual, multimodal, and flexible. It has been built completely in India, specifically designed to serve India’s diverse needs.
Arup Rakshit, Group Head Treasury at HDFC Bank, said the bank was drawn to CoRover’s focus on India’s linguistic diversity. “Development of BharatGPT, which enables exchange of information in multiple Indian languages for a diverse country like India, set apart CoRover for us,” he said.
Ankush Sabharwal, Founder and CEO of CoRover, said the partnership with HDFC Bank would help scale BharatGPT’s reach. “This partnership signals a shared commitment to building AI that is sovereign, secure, inclusive, and capable of scaling across India’s most critical sectors,” he said.
CoRover values government initiatives like the IndiaAI Mission, which help startups grow and connect globally through programs such as IndiaAI Startups Global, an international accelerator in Paris.
Their platform allows businesses to easily create smart AI agents for voice, video, and chat, using BharatGPT’s advanced language understanding and support for multiple Indian languages and dialects. The new BharatGPT Mini can even run on low-end devices and offline, making AI accessible in areas with limited internet or technology.
