IJM Construction Wins $330M Data Center Project in Johor

IJM Construction Sdn Bhd, a fully owned unit of Malaysia’s IJM Corporation Berhad, has won a MYR 1.4 billion ($330 million) contract to build a large data center in Johor Bahru.

The firm said in a statement last Friday that the fast-track project comprises a six-storey data center building with integrated office facilities and a refuse and recycling facility.

The data center will have a total floor area of about 62,000 square meters. IJM Construction will handle all the main building works using a pre-cast system with columns, beams, and hollow core slabs, along with steel structures to support mechanical and electrical installations.

The building is designed to meet high sustainability standards, aiming for LEED Gold and GreenRE Platinum certifications. It will also feature a unique green wall façade with built-in irrigation.

These eco-friendly features, combined with modern construction methods, will help ensure long-term efficiency.

This is IJM Construction’s biggest data center project so far and its fourth in Johor, which is becoming a key hub for large-scale facilities supporting AI, cloud computing, and digital services in Southeast Asia.

The project is expected to be completed by September 2026, within 13 months.

“This project win demonstrates IJM Construction’s ability to deliver complex, high-specification facilities on accelerated schedules,

“By applying our core strengths in structural delivery and execution, we can meet the demands of today’s hyperscale data center market for speed, quality, and scalability,” said Lee Chun Fai, Group Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, IJM Corporation Berhad.

He said the firm is also seeing stronger emphasis on environmental performance, with certifications and green features becoming standard in data center design.

He noted the firm’s role is to ensure these evolving requirements are met with reliability and precision.

“The rapid growth of AI, cloud services, and high-density computing is driving unprecedented investment in Malaysia’s digital infrastructure,

“Johor’s position as a key regional node makes projects like this critical, and IJM is well-placed to deliver the capacity and performance that operators require,” he added.

This new data center contract adds MYR 1.4 billion ($330 million) to IJM Construction’s total order book, increasing it from MYR 7.6 billion ($1.8 billion) on March 31, 2025, to MYR 9.2 billion ($2.18 billion).

The company’s project pipeline includes several data centers, electronics manufacturing plants, and logistics hubs — all key sectors supporting IJM’s growth in industrial and digital infrastructure.
