The pre-Series A funding round led by Burda Principal Investments, a branch of Europe’s media and technology behemoth Hubert Burda Media, has brought US$12 million to Singapore-based Kasagi Labo, a venture studio that presents genuine Japanese animation to a worldwide audience.
Participating companies included Gold House Foundation, CMT Digital, SuperScrypt, Hashed, and Sfermion. This takes the total amount of money Kasagi Labo has raised to $20 million.

The money will be used by Kasagi Labo to develop new anime IPs or to acquire pre-existing ones in order to invest in anime productions. This project is in line with the current business trends, which are being fueled by the growth of video-on-demand services.
Authentic Japanese anime content is delivered by Kasagi Labo, which was founded and is led by anime aficionado Kendrick Wong. Its multidimensional strategy includes IP licencing, distribution, and merchandising. The website seeks to bring together all members of the anime content development community, including voice actors, illustrators, and IP owners.

According to industry predictions, the anime business is expected to develop at an impressive compound annual growth rate of 9.4%, which would catapult it from its 2022 worth of US$25.8 billion to an estimated US$62.7 billion by 2032.
