Betamek Berhad, a company from Malaysia that designs and builds products, has teamed up with SiGenex Global Holdings, a tech company from Singapore. Together, they will use artificial intelligence (AI) to improve genetic testing and DNA sequencing.
Betamek said in a statement that its wholly owned subsidiary, Betamek Research Sdn. Bhd. (BRSB), has signed a memorandum of collaboration (MoC) with SiGenex to work together on the project.
The partnership aims to work together and share knowledge, technology, and support to develop a faster and more affordable next-generation genetic testing and DNA sequencing solution that uses AI.
The facility is designed to speed up research in telematics, IoT-connected vehicles, and advanced sensor technology. It also helps boost local skills in developing the next generation of automotive technology.
Under the agreement, BRSB will use its engineering and electronics manufacturing skills to help design and build SiGenex’s special Benchtop Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) machine.
This machine uses advanced Digital Microfluidics (DMF) technology to make DNA and RNA sequencing more accurate and affordable.
The partnership includes creating manufacturing processes, setting up facilities that meet ISO and GMP standards, and providing full engineering and research support to help grow and scale the project.
BRSB will help set up memorable production lines to make the platform’s DMF sample cartridges and parts. SiGenex will provide the technical details, engineering support, and a global plan to bring the product to market, including testing it in hospitals, clinics, and labs.
“This partnership is an important step for Betamek as we expand from making automotive electronics into the high-value biotech industry, using our manufacturing and research skills in a new area,”
“SiGenex’s breakthrough NGS platform aligns with our strategic vision to become a regional center for precision manufacturing and smart diagnostics assembly. We are confident this partnership will open up innovation and commercial opportunities across the region,” said Muhammad Fauzi Bin Abd Ghani, Executive Director of Betamek.
If the project is successfully tested, SiGenex plans to give Betamek the exclusive job of making and assembling its NGS machines and cartridges for the Asia region. This will depend on a future agreement that includes pricing, quality, and production terms.
Both companies will keep working on a final agreement over the next twelve months to create a long-term manufacturing partnership.
This partnership shows Betamek’s ability to adapt and grow in new technology areas. The statement supports their goal of long-term growth through innovative partnerships. It helps strengthen Malaysia’s role as a leader in advanced medical technology manufacturing in Southeast Asia.
Betamek is a company that designs and manufactures custom electronics and components for the automotive industry. They specialize in original design manufacturing (ODM) and electronics manufacturing services (EMS), which include design, development, sourcing, and production.
