Malaysia’s PayNet Expands DuitNow

Malaysia’s Payments Network Malaysia (PayNet) has expanded its DuitNow QR payment service to five international markets through a partnership with Ant International’s Alipay+ network. The expansion allows Malaysian users to make payments in China, Hong Kong, South Korea, the Philippines and Laos using supported mobile banking apps.

Announced on October 28, 2026, the service is initially available to users of Maybank, CIMB and Hong Leong Bank. Customers can scan QR codes displaying the Alipay+ logo at participating merchants and pay directly through their existing banking apps without downloading a separate application.

DuitNow QR Expands Cross-Border Payments

The new service connects Malaysia’s DuitNow QR network with Alipay+, enabling users to make digital payments while travelling abroad. Customers can use their familiar banking applications for purchases at participating shops, restaurants and other merchants.

PayNet said Bank Islam is expected to join the service soon. Other banks and e-wallet providers participating in its network can also adopt the payment option. The company plans to expand DuitNow QR’s international coverage to additional markets over time.

PayNet Reports Growth in Cross-Border Transactions

PayNet handled nearly 30 million cross-border transactions in 2025, representing an increase of approximately 150% compared with 2024. The company said transactions linked to China accounted for a significant portion of this growth.

The expansion builds on PayNet’s partnership with Ant International, which has enabled users of supported international payment services to make purchases at participating Malaysian merchants since October 2023. The latest development extends this payment convenience to Malaysian users travelling overseas.
