The Malaysian Rubber Council (MRC) and the Malaysian Green Technology and Climate Change Corporation (MGTC) have announced a formal three-year partnership. This collaboration aims to speed up low-carbon initiatives in Malaysia’s rubber industry.
The agreement was signed today during the International Greentech and Eco Products Exhibition and Conference Malaysia (IGEM) 2025.
The collaboration, witnessed by Datuk Dr Ching Thoo A/L Kim, Secretary General of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability (NRES), aims to help the rubber industry move towards net-zero carbon emissions between 2026 and 2028.
Muhammad Eizaaz bin Muhammad Redzuan, CEO of MRC, said the partnership is based on the Low Carbon Transition Roadmap for Malaysian Rubber and Rubber Product Manufacturers. This roadmap gives a plan for cutting greenhouse gas emissions and using more sustainable business practices.
Under the MoU, MRC and MGTC will carry out training programs to help the rubber industry manage greenhouse gas emissions. They will also create a special tool to track and calculate emissions and set benchmarks to see how ready the sector is for net-zero operations.
These initiatives aim to give rubber product manufacturers the knowledge and tools they need to measure, manage, and reduce emissions in an effective way.
So far, over 50 MRC member companies have joined greenhouse gas (GHG) management programs, showing that the industry is increasingly moving toward sustainable practices.
This partnership supports Malaysia’s National Industrial Master Plan 2030 and the National Agricommodity Policy 2021–2030. It also helps the country work toward its goal of reaching net-zero emissions by 2050 while strengthening the rubber industrys position as a global leader in sustainable production.
