Nagish Acquires Sign.mt to Enhance AI Sign Language Translation

Israeli startup Nagish, which creates AI-powered communication tools for people who are deaf or hard of hearing, has acquired Sign.mt — a company that built advanced technology for real-time sign language recognition and translation.

The deal, worth several million dollars, was completed using a mix of cash and company shares.

Sign.mt was founded by Dr. Amit Moryossef, an Israeli expert in sign language and natural language processing, along with a Swiss partner. The company is based in Switzerland.

As part of the deal, Dr. Moryossef will join Nagish as the Head of Research.

The goal of the acquisition is to combine speech-to-text, text-to-speech, and visual recognition of hand gestures and facial expressions into one system.

This combination will make communication easier and more accessible for millions of deaf and hard of hearing people around the world.

Tomer Aharoni, CEO and co-founder of Nagish, said, “The demand for sign language interpreters is growing, and our solutions are designed to bridge the gap created by the shortage.”

Nagish was founded in 2021 by Aharoni and Alon Ezer. The company has raised $16 million so far.

It currently has about 30 employees working in Israel and the United States.
