Naver Cloud has partnered with Siam AI Cloud, a Thai AI company, to create a large language model (LLM) and AI tools that understand and use the Thai language.
The deal shows that Naver is working to bring its AI technology, developed with Nvidia’s help, to other countries. Their goal is to help nations build and run their own AI systems using local data and in their languages. This idea is often called “sovereign AI.”
As part of the deal signed on Thursday, Naver Cloud and Siam AI Cloud will launch a Thai-language large language model (LLM) by the end of the year. After that, they will create AI tools designed for Thailand’s tourism industry. They also plan to expand their AI services into healthcare, public services, and other important sectors.
Siam AI Cloud is a company in Bangkok that offers cloud services using Nvidia’s powerful computer chips. It is one of the top companies in Thailand that is helping the country grow and change through the use of AI.
Experts say this partnership shows shared goals: Naver wants to grow its AI business worldwide, Nvidia gains from more people using its powerful computer chips, and countries like Thailand want to build their own AI systems instead of relying on big Western tech companies.
Naver has already released a Korean-language language model called HyperClova X and is working on an Arabic-language model in Saudi Arabia.
More Southeast Asian countries are becoming interested in creating their own AI tools. This helps them control their data and rely less on foreign tech companies.
“This partnership supports Thailand in gaining the technical capability and control needed to develop and manage its AI models,” said Naver Cloud CEO Kim Yoo-won. “It offers a blueprint for other countries seeking to build independent AI ecosystems.”
Naver wants to grow its work on sovereign AI across Southeast Asia. This means helping countries build their own AI systems using local data.
Recently, Naver’s Executive Chair Lee Hae-jin and other leaders visited Taiwan. They met with partners like Nvidia and Chunghwa Telecom to look for new opportunities in the region.
