Netgear, a networking company based in the US, announced on Friday that it has bought Exium, a cybersecurity startup from Bengaluru. The goal is to offer better-combined services for managed service providers (MSPs) and their customers.
Exium’s CEO, Farooq Khan, will join the NETGEAR for Business leadership team. He said both companies share the same goal—to provide a powerful, all-in-one cybersecurity solution specially designed for small and medium-sized businesses.
“Exium is a small team based in Bengaluru. The purpose of acquiring this startup was to have integrated solutions for small and medium enterprises,” Pramod Badjate, president and general manager of Netgear for Business products.
The startup provides a secure network platform called SASE, which is already being used by several universities in India.
Netgear recently bought VAAG Systems, a company based in Chennai, to boost its software development team.
VAAG’s leaders, research experts, and engineers will now work for Netgear and run its software development center in Chennai.
Badjate said the company plans to hire more than 100 engineers in the next 12 to 18 months to grow its teams. This includes the new Chennai center and the Exium team.
He also said that Netgear might expand its operations in Bengaluru.
Netgear focuses on small and medium-sized businesses. “If you’re a small or medium enterprise with less than 500 employees and no IT department, you need wifi and routing etc. but that is not enough; you need security as well,” Badjate said.
The company is using AI and cloud technology to make setting up networks easier, fix problems automatically, and improve security. This helps small and medium businesses grow faster and work better.
