Origin Closes $20 Mn in Funding to Expand Construction Robotics Platform

Origin, a physical AI startup developing robots for interior construction, has Closes $20 million in a funding round co-led by Accel and Zacua Ventures. The company will use the capital to expand its robot fleet, deploy its flagship OG-1 robot and conduct customer pilots across the United States and Europe.

The funding round also included participation from Unilazer Ventures, Schema Ventures and Z21, alongside angel investors associated with Anduril, Skild AI, 1X and Tesla.

Funding Details and Investors

The $20 million funding will support Origin's plans to scale its construction robotics operations and expand the commercial deployment of its technology. Zacua Ventures founding partner Vivin Hegde has joined Origin's board as a director as part of the investment.

The company is preparing to deploy its robots at more construction sites and work with customers to demonstrate how autonomous systems can handle repetitive interior finishing tasks.

How Will Origin Use the Funding?

Origin plans to expand its robot fleet and conduct customer pilots in the US and Europe. Its initial deployments include work with two large drywall finishing contractors in the United States. The company is also exploring pilot projects in Germany, Sweden, France and Saudi Arabia.

The startup intends to extend its robotics platform beyond wall finishing to additional construction activities, including taping, drywall installation, drilling and conduit installation. Origin aims to deploy 150 robots by the end of 2027.

Company Background and Leadership

Origin is headquartered in San Francisco and focuses on applying physical AI and autonomous robotics to interior construction. Its founding team brings experience across technology, artificial intelligence and hardware development.

Yogesh Ghaturle previously founded Perpule, a cloud-based point-of-sale startup that was acquired by Amazon in 2021. At Origin, Tushar Makkar leads autonomy, drawing on his previous experience at AI company Eightfold AI. Ashish Daga leads hardware and has experience at digital pathology startup Morphle Labs.

With its latest funding, Origin plans to expand its deployments, develop additional robotic capabilities and establish customer relationships across more markets as it works towards its 2027 deployment target

Leadership Comments

“We believe a foundational physical AI model built specifically for construction is the right approach to win in this massive market, where robotics has barely scratched the surface,” said Anagh Prasad, Investor at Accel. “The Origin team has moved at an incredible pace since we first partnered with them, and their early customer traction shows the technology is ready and the market is waiting. We are excited to back Yogesh, Tushar and Ashish as they bring AI to the built world, making construction faster, safer and more economical.”

“Every customer we work with has more demand and project backlogs than their teams can deliver. They’re leaving revenue on the table because they don’t have enough skilled people, and demand is only growing. Over the last century, construction has only mechanized or automated heavy exterior work. But much of the skilled work inside the building, which accounts for more than 65% of the construction timelines, is still done by hand. We started Origin to bring physical AI to interior trades,” said Yogesh Ghaturle, co-founder and CEO of Origin. “We think of Origin as a time machine for construction, helping crews complete work faster while moving the industry toward autonomous job sites. Wall finishing and painting are only our starting trades; our ambition is to automate the full range of interior trades so contractors can build faster with consistent quality.”

“We spent 18 months building before coming out of stealth because we wanted to prove what our robots could do on real job sites.” added Yogesh. “Today, our robots are already working at three times human speed, delivering human-level quality and generalising across different site conditions. Now we’re focused on bringing that capability to more sites and more trades.”

About Origin and Its OG-1 Robot

Founded in 2025 by Yogesh Ghaturle, Ashish Daga and Tushar Makkar, Origin develops autonomous robots designed to automate interior construction work.

Its flagship OG-1 robot is built to perform wall-finishing tasks, including applying compound, sanding and priming. These activities are commonly required in residential apartments, commercial buildings, data centres, hotels and warehouses.

The company's robots are powered by its proprietary Construction Action Model, a foundation model developed for construction workflows. The system combines task planning, autonomous navigation and tool control to help robots carry out work in changing construction-site environments.
