PayPal to Acquire Israeli Multi-Channel Commerce Platform Cymbio

PayPal has agreed to buy Cymbio, a Tel Aviv-based company that helps brands share their product catalogs on a variety of AI-powered shopping platforms.

The deal amount was not officially shared, but it’s believed to be worth hundreds of millions of dollars. The acquisition is expected to finish in the first half of 2026, after completing the usual legal and regulatory checks.

The acquisition, announced on Thursday, shows PayPal’s plan to be more than just a payments company. It wants to become a key player in “agentic commerce”, where people find and buy products through AI systems instead of regular online stores.

Cymbio was founded in 2015 by Roy Avidor, Mor Lavi, and Gilad Zirkel. The company makes software that helps merchants keep their product data, inventory, and orders in Sync across multiple sales channels.

Cymbio already works with AI platforms like Microsoft Copilot and Perplexity. These are also supported by PayPal’s agentic commerce services, and future integrations with OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini app are expected.

PayPal and Cymbio were already working together before this deal, and PayPal Ventures invested in Cymbio in 2022. By acquiring Cymbio, PayPal now controls a technology layer that comes before payments, where AI systems help consumers discover, view and order products.

At the heart of the deal is PayPal’s Store Sync service, which Cymbio’s technology already supported. Store Sync lets merchants show their product catalogs in AI-powered shopping platforms and automatically send orders back to the merchants’ existing systems for processing.

Even with this system, merchants stay in control. They remain the official seller, manage their customer relationships, and maintain their branding, which PayPal highlights as important as big platforms gain more influence in digital commerce.
