Perth Edtech Startup Coursebox Raises $750K from Purpose Ventures to Transform Corporate Training

Coursebox, a Perth-based edtech startup, has raised $750,000 in seed funding from local VC firm Purpose Ventures. This funding will enable the company to move forward with its mission to make course creation faster and easier through the use of AI.

Founded by educational designer Travis Clapp and marketer Alex Hey, Coursebox has built an AI tool that allows organizations to quickly create engaging and fully compliant training courses in just minutes.

“Our mission is simple: to become the world’s easiest way to create and deliver engaging courses – globally, in any language, for any learner,” said Coursebox CEO Travis Clapp.

“This investment allows us to accelerate that mission by equipping HR teams, training providers, and learning designers with tools to turn knowledge into ready-to-deliver training.

“Partnering with a founder-focused fund like Purpose Ventures gives us the backing to scale faster while staying true to that.”

Since launching in mid-2023, Coursebox has gained over 100,000 sign-ups from 180+ countries, with around 90% of its sales coming through organic SEO traffic.

The startup, a 2024 graduate of Western Australia’s Plus Eight accelerator, is quickly becoming a strong example of the state’s growing innovation scene. Its clients include global names like Germany’s TeamWorks and Australian organisations such as Academy Xi and Grower Group Alliance.

This seed round is the ninth investment from Purpose Ventures’ $55 million early-stage fund, which is fully backed by WA investors to support local founders expanding worldwide.

“We have been impressed with Travis, Alex and the Coursebox team since their time in the Plus Eight accelerator,” said Purpose Ventures Managing Director, Derek Gerrard.

“They are tackling a significant pain point for learning designers and training providers, making course creation faster, more affordable, and more engaging.

“Their impressive organic growth and global traction demonstrate a clear product-market fit, and we are excited to support them as they scale their technology and continue to build a globally competitive company from right here in WA.”
