Petronas Carigali and Halliburton Launch Next-Gen Subsurface Modeling and Reservoir Management Solutions

Malaysia’s Petronas Carigali and global energy company Halliburton have announced a new partnership to improve how they explore and manage underground oil and gas reserves.

As part of this partnership, Petronas Carigali will start using Halliburton’s advanced software tools—DecisionSpace® 365 and Unified Ensemble Modeling. These tools are designed to speed up the process from exploration to production by bringing all planning and development steps into one system.

Unlike older methods, Halliburton’s new technology offers smarter and more flexible ways to model underground layers and predict oil reserves.

It also allows teams to work together in real-time on a shared digital model, helping them make more accurate decisions and better estimate how much oil is in the ground.

The Geosciences Suite creates detailed and accurate earth models that work well at all levels—from large basins to smaller oil fields. This helps keep data consistent as projects move from exploration to development.

This smooth process helps projects move forward faster, especially in the early planning stages.

With the unified ensemble modeling tool, teams can automatically create many possible geological scenarios and include real-time data about how the reservoir is performing.

This method helps make predictions more accurate, speeds up testing different possibilities, and gives teams more confidence when making decisions.

“We transform subsurface modeling through proven differentiated technologies to solve unique challenges,

“When we unite exploration and development teams, we help our customers generate returns faster and maximize asset value,” said Tony Antoun, senior vice president of Landmark Software and Services.

Meanwhile, Hazli Sham Kassim, Senior Vice President of Malaysia Asset and Chief Executive Officer of Petronas Carigali Sdn. Bhd said that a harmonized, artificial intelligence (AI) assisted workflow anchored on a single live-earth model across the exploration and development phases is central to the firm’s strategy in achieving its ambitious project delivery targets.

Ahmad Faisal Bakar, Petronas Vice President of Exploration, said using DecisionSpace® 365 and Unified Ensemble Modeling fits with the company’s goal to speed up projects and make sure everything runs smoothly from exploration to production.

This partnership comes after a careful review of how Petronas manages both new and older oil fields. The new method will use multiple possible scenarios and is supported by AI and machine learning to help improve efficiency and provide better insights.
