PropertyGuru Group, a property technology company based in Singapore, announced that Lu Yao will become Managing Director starting September 15.
As Managing Director, he will lead the growth of the Group’s Singapore marketplace business, PropertyGuru, and will drive strategies that deliver value to property seekers and customers, the proptech firm said in a statement.
According to the statement, Lu Yao will be a part of the group’s Executive Leadership Team (XLT) and will report to the Chief Executive Officer, Lewis Ng.
Lu Yao has extensive experience in marketplaces and e-commerce, helping companies grow, improving operations, and leading large teams across Singapore and Asia.
Before joining PropertyGuru, he was Group Head of Marketplace and Chief Commercial Officer for Bangladesh at Daraz Group (Alibaba International Digital Commerce), where he shaped the company’s commercial strategy in South Asia and led growth initiatives in Bangladesh.
Earlier, Lu Yao led Shopee Singapore’s FMCG Cluster and Mall, building its retail and delivery businesses from scratch.
He also worked as a management consultant at McKinsey & Company in China, advising on strategy and organizational changes, and led product innovation at Dow Chemicals in the US.
As Managing Director for Singapore, Lu Yao will drive business growth strategies, lead the commercial and sales teams, mentor the country leadership team, and manage day-to-day operations.
He will also be part of the XLT (Executive Leadership Team), helping shape and execute PropertyGuru Group’s overall business strategy.
