Rebel Foods Names Co-founder Ankush Grover as New CEO

Rebel Foods, a cloud kitchen company getting ready for its IPO, has made a leadership change. Ankush Grover, one of the cofounders, is now the new CEO, taking over from Jaydeep Barman. Barman will now become the Chairman and Group CEO.

Ankush Grover was earlier the India CEO at Rebel Foods, which owns popular brands like Faasos and Behrouz Biryani.

This change comes as the company, backed by Temasek, looks to simplify its operations and focus on its main business. At the same time, there are still some concerns about how well its premium brands are doing.

“We are pleased to announce a leadership transition at Rebel Foods. Ankush Grover, cofounder and previously CEO – India, has been elevated to Global CEO of Rebel Foods. Over the years, Ankush has played a pivotal role in building Rebel from the ground up and scaling it across markets. In his expanded role, all core functions—including technology, finance, marketing, and human resources—will now report directly to him,” a spokesperson of the unicorn said.

Rebel Foods said that from now on, all major departments like technology, finance, marketing, and HR will report directly to the new CEO, Ankush Grover.

As part of its ongoing changes, the company has also closed its offices in Gurugram and Bengaluru. All work and employees have been moved to the main office in Mumbai.

Rebel Foods was started in 2011 by Jaydeep Barman and Kallol Banerjee. It became a unicorn (a startup valued over $1 billion) in October 2021 after raising $175 million from investors led by the Qatar Investment Authority (QIA). The company is now valued at $1.4 billion.

Based in Mumbai, Rebel Foods is now looking to buy, invest in, or partner with restaurant brands that make more than INR 50 crore in yearly revenue.
