ResponsAbility to Invest Up to $15M in Singapore’s Clean Energy Company August Energy

ResponsAbility, a global investment company focused on positive impact, will invest up to $15 million in August Energy. August Energy is a company based in Singapore that provides energy services, with offices in Thailand, India, and the Philippines.

ResponsAbility said in a statement on Wednesday that the funding will support August Energy in expanding its portfolio of distributed renewable energy projects in India.

This investment is part of responsAbility’s $500 million climate plan for Asia. The goal is to support private companies that build clean energy projects and help reduce carbon emissions in fast-growing countries across the region.

With the new funding, August Energy plans to grow its energy projects in India. The company aims to reach over one gigawatt (GW) of installed energy capacity in the next five years.

This growth will support India’s national goal of reaching 500 GW of renewable energy and help meet the UN’s Net Zero climate goals.

August Energy builds and runs small-scale energy systems for businesses in India and Southeast Asia. These include rooftop solar panels and services like cooling and steam systems.

The company serves various industries, including manufacturing, automotive parts, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, consumer goods and data centers.

“This first structured financing, delivered in partnership with responsAbility, marks a key milestone for our business,

“The facility gives us flexibility to execute on our growing project pipeline in India over the next 12 months,” said Michael Brown, Chief Investment and Financial Officer (CIFO), August Energy.

Meanwhile, Rohit Nanda, Chair of August Energy and Head of Sustainable Infrastructure at Aravest, an investor in August Energy, said bringing responsAbility on board is a strategic step to accelerate asset development in India and Southeast Asia.

“In a capital-intensive sector, structured debt plays a critical role in long-term value creation,” he added.

Sameer Tirkar, Head of Climate Infrastructure Investments, Asia Pacific (APAC) at responsAbility, said August Energy is a well-positioned platform for decentralized energy solutions in the region.

“The investment aligns with our strategy to back scalable private-sector infrastructure that drives emissions reduction,” he added.

Jay Bathija, Senior Investment Officer at responsAbility, said that August Energy has the key qualities they look for—strong technical skills, a clear focus on fighting climate change, and solid support from its investors.

August Energy builds and owns energy systems for the long term. It helps companies in Southeast Asia and India reduce their carbon emissions in a cost-effective way, without needing to spend their own money.

The company offers a wide range of energy services, including renewable energy, energy storage, cooling, heat recovery, and bioenergy, all tailored to each customer’s specific needs.

August Energy is supported by major investors, including SDIEF (an investment fund backed by Aravest and SMBC Group) and Green Tower (supported by Green Giraffe and Daiwa Securities).

ResponsAbility Investments AG is a top impact investment company that focuses on private markets. It works in areas like financial inclusion, climate finance, and sustainable food. Since its inception in 2003, it has invested over $16.8 billion in projects that have a positive impact.
