Samsung SDI announced that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Korean automaker KG Mobility (KGM) to work together on developing next-generation battery pack technologies for electric vehicles.
The signing ceremony was attended by Samsung SDI executives, including Ick Kyu Choi, Head of Mobile & Power Battery Business and Han Jae Cho, Head of Marketing.
Senior leaders from KG Mobility were also present, including Jeong Hyun Kwak, Chief Strategy Officer, and Yong Il Kwon, General Headquarters Director.
As part of the agreement, the two companies will work on battery pack technologies using Samsung SDI’s 46-series cylindrical battery cells. They will also expand their collaboration to develop advanced battery packs for the next generation of electric vehicles. These battery packs are expected to be used in KG Mobility’s future EV models.
The companies also plan to build a long-term strategic partnership by sharing insights on global battery market trends and working together on joint research and development.
Samsung SDI’s 46-series cylindrical battery offers high energy density, which helps provide longer driving range and faster charging. It is also designed for better safety and durability ensuring stable performance in different driving conditions.
The battery uses high-capacity, high-nickel NCA cathodes and Samsung SDI’s own Silicon Carbon Nanocomposite (SCN) anodes. This helps reduce swelling and extend the overall life of the battery.
It also features a tabless design that lowers internal resistance and improves power output and fast-charging speed. Better thermal management and advanced manufacturing processes further improve safety and ensure high product quality and reliability.
Through this partnership, Samsung SDI showcased the strong performance and high quality of its 46-series cylindrical batteries.
“This partnership once again proved the differentiated technological competitiveness of our 46-series cylindrical batteries in both Korean and global EV markets,” said a SAMSUNG SDI official. “We will continue to strengthen our technology leadership in the next-generation global battery industry.”
