SUMMARY

  • Satvacart, a Gurugram-based e-grocery startup, has shut down after 12 years of operations.
  • The company started in 2014 with milk subscriptions before moving into online grocery delivery.
  • Founder Rahul H. Saxena said the company explored funding, strategic investment, and acquisition options before shutting down.

Satvacart stopped its operations on August 28, 2026, and the team was subsequently disbanded.

Founder Rahul H. Saxena said. “After running Satvacart for 12 years, we have finally taken the difficult decision to discontinue operations. 28 August was our last day of operations, and we have disbanded the team.”

According to Saxena, the company tried several options before deciding to shut down. These included raising fresh capital, finding a strategic investor and exploring a possible acquisition.

“We continued pushing till the very end and explored every realistic funding, strategic investment and acquisition option available to us,” Saxena said.

Satvacart raised around $2.32 Mn during its lifetime, with a large part of the money coming from angel investors. Its last recorded funding came in January 2018, when the startup received around $221,000 from an angel investor.

The company later spoke with two larger investors about a significant investment, but neither deal went through. Satvacart also held acquisition talks with several companies, but those discussions did not result in a deal.

Saxena said the company's focus on profitability also made it difficult to reach the kind of scale that investors and potential buyers were looking for.

Meanwhile, India's online grocery market has changed sharply since Satvacart entered the space. Quick-commerce companies such as Blinkit, Zepto and Swiggy Instamart have pushed the market towards faster deliveries and larger networks, requiring businesses to invest heavily in expansion.

Satvacart managed to continue operating for 12 years despite these challenges. Looking back at the journey, Saxena said he had no regrets about the effort he put into building the company.
