SecurePII, a Melbourne-based startup focused on data privacy and compliance, has raised US$3.5 million (A$5 million) in seed funding, led by Sydney venture capital firm Tidal Ventures.
The company was founded by Jason Thals, Haydn Faltyn, and Bill Placke, who are not only experienced in cloud communications, data compliance, and software delivery, but also passionate about sports, adventure, and creativity — from skiing and cycling to woodwork and beer brewing.
SecurePII was spun out of BroadSource, a cloud communications company, in early 2025.
PII stands for Personally Identifiable Information. The startup’s cloud-based technology focuses on helping companies manage and protect this kind of sensitive data.
Right now, SecurePII is working on PCI (Payment Card Industry) standards and the new PCI DSS (Data Security Standard), released in March. These updated rules set stricter guidelines for how businesses store, handle, and protect payment data, especially for companies that record calls containing customer card details.
SecurePII’s main strength is its patented AI technology, which can remove personal information (PII) in real time during recorded calls. The platform connects with VoIP systems and payment gateways, allowing teams to help customers while reducing data privacy risks. Its main product, Securecall, is already used in the U.S., Australia, and Europe.
The new funding will help grow the sales and support teams, improve product innovation — including the AI-powered selective redaction feature — and expand the company’s presence in the U.S. and other global markets.
Placke, the Americas president, said the platform closes a key data privacy gap using AI.
“Reading your credit card details or personal information to a stranger on the phone is one of the last unsolved risks,” he said.
“SecurePII not only makes voice payments PCI-compliant; it will also enable organisations to safely harness voice data for AI and analytics.”
