Shorooq Invests in Yann LeCun’s AI Startup AMI Labs in $1.03B Funding Round

Shorooq has announced that it participated in a $1.03 billion funding round for AMI Labs, a new artificial intelligence company founded by AI pioneer Yann LeCun. The funding round included several leading global venture capital firms and technology investors.

The round is one of the largest seed funding rounds ever raised by an AI startup. It was co-led by Cathay Innovation, Greycroft, Hiro Capital, HV Capital, and Bezos Expeditions, valuing AMI Labs at about $3.5 billion before the investment.

Other investors in the round include Temasek, Nvidia, SBVA, Mark Cuban, Eric Schmidt, and Xavier Niel. Their participation shows strong confidence in AMI’s goal of building a new type of AI system that can reason, plan, and better understand the real world.

AMI Labs was founded by Yann LeCun, a Turing Award winner and former Chief AI Scientist at Meta. The company is developing a new approach to AI using “world models,” which learn from real-world and spatial data instead of only predicting text or images. This approach aims to create AI systems that can better understand cause and effect and perform deeper reasoning.

AMI Labs is led by CEO Alexandre LeBrun, who previously co-founded and led the healthcare AI company Nabla. AI pioneer Yann LeCun serves as the company’s Executive Chair. The company is headquartered in Paris, with additional offices in New York City, Montreal, and Singapore.

AMI Labs plans to focus first on enterprise applications in industries such as manufacturing, aerospace, robotics, and biomedical technology.

For Shorooq, this investment shows its commitment to supporting innovative technology companies that are building new categories in the global tech ecosystem.

Dr. Bilal Baloch, Partner at Shorooq, said: “AMI Labs represents one of the most ambitious efforts to redefine the foundations of artificial intelligence. Yann LeCun’s vision for world-model architectures could fundamentally expand what machines are capable of understanding and executing in the physical world. We are proud to support this next wave of AI innovation alongside some of the world’s leading investors.”

Founded in 2026 by Yann LeCun and Alexandre LeBrun, AMI Labs is working to build a new generation of artificial intelligence using “world model” technology. This approach aims to create AI systems that can reason, plan, and understand real-world environments. The company plans to first use this technology in industries such as manufacturing, robotics, aerospace, and biomedical sectors.
