Singapore’s SquareX Raises $20M in Series A Round Led by SYN Ventures.

SquareX, a Singapore-based cybersecurity startup, announced it has raised $20 million in a Series A round led by SYN Ventures, a venture capital firm specializing in cybersecurity investments.

In a statement released last Thursday, SquareX said the round also included participation from existing investor Peak XV Partners (formerly Sequoia Capital SEA).

The company noted that browsers have become a primary target for cyberattacks, exposing a critical gap in enterprise security. Traditional security tools lack visibility into browser-based threats, while proprietary enterprise browsers often create friction, impacting user productivity and adoption.

SquareX has introduced the industry’s first Browser Detection and Response (BDR) solution, transforming any browser into an enterprise-grade secure platform through a simple extension. This provides all the capabilities of dedicated enterprise browsers—without the complexities of change management.

By taking this unique approach, SquareX is redefining browser security, enabling enterprises to directly address threats such as malicious extensions, phishing, generative AI (genAI) data leaks, insider threats, and more, all within the browser itself. This significantly reduces the enterprise attack surface while maintaining a seamless user experience.

“The browser has become the new endpoint, yet it remains a major blind spot for most organizations. Existing solutions often force a trade-off between security and usability,” said Vivek Ramachandran, Chief Executive Officer of SquareX.

“We built SquareX to eliminate this compromise in browser security, offering robust protection that works with the browsers users are already familiar with,

“This Series A funding, led by the team at SYN Ventures, validates our vision of everyone being able to be online without fear,” he added.

Jay Leek, Managing Partner and Founder of SYN Ventures, said SquareX is addressing one of the most critical and overlooked areas in cybersecurity today.

“The browser has become ground zero for countless attacks. SquareX has developed an elegant, powerful solution that delivers critical visibility and control directly within the native browser experience,” he said.

Shailendra Singh, Managing Director at Peak XV, shared that having supported SquareX since its seed stage, he has been consistently impressed by the team’s vision and execution in tackling browser security challenges.

“We are excited to deepen our partnership as they continue to deliver essential cybersecurity capabilities to enterprise customers,” he added.

SquareX is pioneering the Browser Detection and Response (BDR) category, empowering organizations to proactively detect, mitigate, and hunt client-side web threats directly within the browser.

With a simple browser extension, SquareX offers robust protection against browser-based threats, including malicious extensions, advanced spear phishing attacks, browser-native ransomware, and generative AI-driven data loss (genAI DLP), among others.

SYN Ventures is a venture capital firm specializing in investments in disruptive and innovative companies across cybersecurity, industrial security, national defense, privacy, regulatory compliance, and data governance sectors.
