Tata Electronics has signed a partnership deal with Robert Bosch GmbH to work together in the electronics and semiconductor sector.
They plan to collaborate on chip packaging and manufacturing at Tata’s new facilities in Assam (for assembly and testing) and Gujarat (for chip production).
Randhir Thakur, CEO and MD of Tata Electronics, and Dirk Kress, Executive VP of Semiconductor Operations at Robert Bosch GmbH, signed the agreement.
“We are excited to partner with Bosch to help Bosch create a robust and reliable supply chain for key technology products,” Thakur said in a statement. “This partnership is well-aligned with our commitment to help create a holistic semiconductor and electronics ecosystem in India, with offerings that resonate with customers around the world.”
“Bosch recognises the increasing demand for advanced automotive electronics and their critical role in shaping the future of mobility” Kress said. Bosch is pleased to foster a partnership with Tata Electronics to address the growing needs and foster supply chain resilience. This move signifies both companies commitment to local collaboration and acknowledges the strategic importance of the burgeoning automotive sector in india.”
The two companies also said they will look into working together on local Electronics Manufacturing Services (EMS) projects for vehicle electronics. They aim to find opportunities that benefit both sides.
Bosch, a global leader in mobility technology, wants to increase its electronics sourcing by teaming up with local companies. The company believes that the growing demand for advanced electronics in cars is an important part of the future of transportation.
Tata’s upcoming chip factory in Dholera, Gujarat, is being built with help from global tech leaders like Taiwan’s PSMC, Himax Technologies, U.S.-based Synopsys, and Japan’s Tokyo Electron Limited (TEL). These partnerships are bringing top-level chipmaking knowledge to India.
Bosch has also recently started exporting chips — a significant achievement for India, which has depended chiefly on importing semiconductors until now.
